Rising reversed (Garage Nord), Helmhaus, Zurich, 2019
In Garage Nord (Rising reversed), insulation elements, such as those used in construction, reproduces the inner-room of a garage. In my studio garage, which belongs to a house that will soon be demolished, I recreated part of the room on a scale of 1: 1 and then transferred this volume to the Helmhaus museum, in Zurich. The insulation materials embody, in their quality of energy container (body and room heat), a trace of our private living and a membrane in which work and thoughts are inscribed. Usually these mats are invisible, but they are brought here in the limelight. Thus, standard building material undergoes a personal transformation, the individual modules are merged into a new image, shifted from the private to the public sphere.
